The Da Hong Pao clay is one of Red Clay family, which is extremely rare and high density of exquisite quality with a high degree of crystallisation. The clay is from the collection of Huang Yu's family since 90s. Genuine Yixing glay is a limited natural resource from the Yixing region in Jiangsu Province, known for its unique mineral composition and porous nature. Families always collect clay not only the preservation of a rare material for future use but also with time, stored clay can mellow and become easier to work with, enhancing its quality for future pottery-making.

Preparation Before Use
Yixing Teapots should be prepared before using the first time. This is called "opening the pot". It removes the dust/sand from firing the teapot.
We recommend rinsing the teapot under warm water two or three times, then wipe gently inside and outside of the pot with a new non-scratch sponge scourer to remove sediment trapped in the unglazed clay.
Then, filling the teapot with boiling water, wait for 10 minutes, empty the pot; repeat one more time, the new Yixing teapot is ready for use.
